A bench top planer thicknesser light enough to move off the bench when not in use. The capacity allows timber of up to 8" x 5" to be accurately dimensioned.
The surface of the aluminium planing beds is precision ground to ensure a perfectly flat working area. The infeed planing bed height is adjusted by rotating the handle on the end; a depth scale with sight glass is marked in graduations of 0.5mm and can be set to remove up to a maximum of 2.0mm in each pass.
The large side fence is held at 90 degrees by twin supports. When required, it can be tilted back up to 45 degrees with a graduated scale for each degree, and a single locking lever secures the angle. Adjustable preset stops at 90 and 135 degrees make returning the fence to its normal operating position quick and simple.
The overhead bridge guard is adjustable in height to allow timber of up to 65mm to pass underneath. When planing a taller piece, the bridge guard is positioned further back from the fence, covering the exposed part of the cutter block. A push stick is included to protect your hands and maintain even pressure when surface planing.
Changing over from planing to thicknessing takes about 60 seconds and, unlike most hobby models, nothing needs to be removed from the machine. The dust collection hood sits underneath the beds for planing and moves to a position on top of the tables for thicknessing. A micro switch ensures the motor will not start unless the hood has been correctly installed.
The thicknessing bed height is adjusted by rotating a handle (1 rotation = 3mm) against a clear scale marked in 1mm increments. A stop bar prevents overloading beyond the 2.0mm maximum depth of cut for each pass. Rubber coated feed rollers pass the timber through the cutter block, leaving a beautiful finish with no roller marks. When a large amount of material needs removing, make several passes, raising the bed after each one.
The motor has overload protection and will cut off when triggered; a reset button gets you up and running again.
Supplied with re-grindable knives, emergency stop button, 4 adjustable rubber feet, push stick, 2.0m power cable, cable tidy and UK 3 pin plug.
It is essential to use dust extraction with a planer thicknesser. The extractor removes all the dust and chips which will otherwise build up, causing a blockage and eventually damage to the machine. Using an extractor also increases the life of the knives. The Charnwood DC50AUTO extractor, with auto start, is a good match for this machine.
