The Pen Mandrel support is designed to save the center point and the mandrel shaft from damage caused by over tightening the tailstock center. The pen mandrel support slides over the pen mandrel shaft to directly support the bushings and blank - this means pressure is not applied to the mandrel shaft. How to identify the Morse taper size of a lathe
To determine the Morse taper (MT) size of a woodturning lathe simply measure the internal diameter of the headstock spindle or tailstock quill.
1MT is approximately 12mm2MT is approximately 18mm3MT is approximately 24mm
Most woodturning lathes are either 1MT or 2MT and have the same size tapers at both ends. However, some older lathes can have different sizes for the headstock and tailstock.
