The Robert Sorby Sovereign is a beautifully engineered and ergonomically designed interchangeable handle system that not only looks good but has the perfect feel and balance. Its softex grip provides excellent comfort and stability making it ideal for larger projects as well as the intricacies demanded of smaller ones. The Sovereign handle is available in three sizes:
12" Sovereign handle - ideal for spindle work and small bowl turning. Included with the handle are three collets - 3/8" and 1/2" diameter for round shanked tools, and a tanged/flat tool collet. 5/8" diameter round shanked tools can also be fitted directly into the handle.
16" Sovereign handle - best suited for bowl turning and hollowing. Included with the handle are two collets - 3/8" and 1/2" diameter for round shanked tools. 5/8" diameter round shanked tools can also be fitted directly into the handle.
22" Sovereign handle - excellent for heavy duty work and deep hollowing where extra leverage is required. Included with the handle are two collets - 3/8" and 1/2" diameter for round shanked tools. 5/8" diameter round shanked tools can also be fitted directly into the handle.
There are several optional extras for the 16" and 22" handles. Whilst the handles are beautifully balanced some turners like a bit of extra weight for control and hence there is a counterweight to fit both handles. For extra control a side handle is also offered. This can be used either on the side or top of the tool in use. For those requiring an even longer handle there is also a threaded coupler which enables the turner to fit two handles together for extra leverage.
