Origin: Europe
Colour: Heartwood is pale yellow with greyish streaks.
Sapwood is not distinct from the heartwood.
Grain: Straight to irregular.
Other Info: A very dense timber. Used for carving,
turning, modelling and musical instrument parts. Also commonly
used for carving chess pieces (along with Ebony).
